An ongoing commitment in Europe, but a renewed military presence in Africa

In terms of the geographic area it favoured for interventions undertaken for humanitarian purposes, France remained strongly present in Europe. As Graph 8 shows, between 52 and 94 per cent of the troops deployed for humanitarian purposes between 2000 and 2004 were in the European continent. In particular, as explained above, France played a key role in operations taking place in Bosnia and Herzegovina (SFOR and Opération Althea) and Kosovo (KFOR).
